Report from the
Captains' meeting
8 September 2008
- After the *joint financial report* (Cheyenne relaying the report from
this season which she had received from Greg Iannou earlier in the day,
Debbie announcing what she had in the coffers), Debbie mentioned that Kerry
had some money for the league; just after Cheyenne vowed to address it,
Kerry arrived — with said cheque.
- The upshot of those financial announcements was that with all the costs
of the past season (most notably the MP3 players), the season ended in a
negative figure, specifically *-$376*. The league *owes $306 to Greg*and
*$70 to Lesley*. We have a *surplus* in the "bank" however —counting the
fresh cheque from Kerry, we have *$795.61*. We will pay Greg and Lesley
from that during the first week.
- Schedule: the *first game is next Monday (September 15)*. A schedule
will follow, courtesy of kind Mark Brader
- The *last game* will be *November 24th* (no game Thanksgiving weekend)
and the finals will be either 1 or 2 weeks after that
- *Kilgours* has decided that they no longer want to host the Inquizition
league in their pub, a sad day indeed. Combining decisions made last night
with intel gleaned from emails today, I can inform that the two teams
affected have selected new home pubs: Azzurri will be at the Spotted Dick
and the Firkins will take the other spot at the Brunswick Pump
- There was much unhappiness aired about the performance of the *MP3
players* this past season. Spades vow to do everything they can to train
themselves (and their QMs) on the equipment, and, in case that isn't enough,
are prepared to invest in better speakers or possibly transformers or maybe
even boom boxes. Kerry is going to investigate reasonable versions of the
latter that allegedly lurk at Walmart. Everyone grudgingly agrees that
going back to tape players is simply not a sensible option.
- The *email list* that Chey has been working from was passed around and
was updated; if you see any extra (or missing!) email addresses on this
document, please advise!
- Cheyenne will forward another email soon with all the *contact
numbers*(cell phone numbers when available) for the members of Spades,
along with
the numbers for the pubs involved.
- There was one vote and the result was this: in the event that someone
wins an *individual prize* for the season and they are not at the finals
to collect their winnings, said winnings will be brought to the next
captain's meeting for them, and, if they are still not able to deliver, to
the first game. After that, the money goes back into the kitty.
- Mark Brader will be doing the stats for us, so we can all relax and
know that our trivial efforts will be diligently charted, and thoughtfully
presented. We're lucky to have him and his willingness to do this for us.
Thanks, Mark.
