Two berths in the Final are already settled, as the Usual Suspects and Forza Azzurri have clinched first place in their respective divisions. The only teams with a practical shot at the remaining berth are MI5 and the Misplaced Modifiers. Which one gets in could depend on wins or, more likely, on scoring points.
Note: all three teams have protests pending on Game 9, Round 7. (Suspects for 1, the others for 1 or 2.) I have been told that these may not be adjudicated until after Game 10.
If neither MI5 nor Mods outscore Suspects by the margin indicated above, then whichever of them finishes second gets in. In this case if only one of MI5 or Mods wins Game 10 (vs. the Firkins and the Cellar Rats respectively), then that one team gets in; and if one has a tie and the other a loss, the team with a tie gets in.
And if MI5 and Mods both win, both tie, or both lose Game 10, neither one outscoring Suspects by the required margin, then the Mods must outscore MI5 by 3 in Game 10 plus the pending protests to get in; otherwise MI5 get in.
Next season is Sam's Spades' turn to set questions, assuming there haven't been any arrangements to the contrary that I haven't heard about. So the returning Five of What? will replace them in the Torquemada Division and, assuming no teams enter or leave the league, we have one promotion and one relegation. The team promoted will be Forza Azzurri. The team relegated will be either Cellar Rats or Footloose and Firkin Free, who, as noted, are playing Mods and MI5 respectively in Game 10. If Firkins win and Mods win, then Rats are relegated. If Firkins/MI5 tie and Mods win, or Firkins win and Rats/Mods tie, then Firkins are relegated unless they outscore Rats by 10 points in Game 10, otherwise Rats are relegated. And in any other case, Firkins are relegated.
