Week 8 Protests
- Round 3:Q7
- Mel of the Misplaced Modifiers answered that
the lanterne rouge refers to a light
that goes on when the race is over, and
protests that that is the same as "the last
person to finish the race", for 2 pts. The
Lanterne Rouge refers to a rider not a
specific point in the race, such as, in this
case, the end of the race. Many different
riders may be the lanterne rouge over the
course of the race but there will only be one
rider who is "the last person to finish the
race" much like the yellow jersey may change
hands. Protest
DENIED.
- Round 6:Q3
- Kelly of All Over Twisted protested that
William Henry Harrison led the US invasion of
Canada, for 1pt. William Henry Harrison
received command after Hull's embarrassing
surrender at Detriot. Protest
ACCEPTED.
- Round 6:Q6
- Anne of M.I.5, protested that "Canadians were
prepared ahead of the U.S. because of their
spies They attacked before US forts knew
there was a war", for 1pt. We could not find
any real reference to this. This also seems
to be a more limitted advatage. Protest
DENIED.
- Round 6:Q6
- Rodney of the Usual Suspects protested
"Better navy" for 2pts. and "Had a navy on
the Great Lakes" for 1pt. We were looking for
Sea power so a 'Better Navy' is close enough.
Protest ACCEPTED.
- Round 6:Q7
- Mischa of Reach for the Tap protested
"Chatham" for the "Battle of the Thames"
(where Tecumseh was killed), for 2 pts. The
battle of the Thames took place near Chatham
but it was actually fought at Moraviantown.
We could find no reference to a battle of
Chatham. Protest DENIED.
- Round 8:Q2
- Stephan of Reach for the Tap protested that
Charing Cross Road is known for the opera for 2
pts. That's Covent Garden. Protest
DENIED.
- Round 8:Q5
- Greg of 5 of What? protested "clothing" for
Oxford Street. Oxford street is not known
specifically for clothing. Protest DENIED.
- Round 8:Q4
- David of Forza Azzurri protested "flea
market" for Portobello Road.
Protest ACCEPTED.
- Round 8:Q9
- All Over Twisted's empty chair protested
"flea market" for Camden Passage, for 1pt.
Protest ACCEPTED.
- Round 8:Q7
- Patrick of On a Roll protested "head shops
(in the 60s)" for Carnaby Street. While there
may have been some head shops there at that
time, that is not what it was known for.
Protest DENIED.
- Round 8:Q9
- Cam of Reach for the Tap protested
"publishing" for Fleet Street, for 1pt. We
had wanted the more specific "newspapers" or
"the press", however, it is close enough:
Protest ACCEPTED.
